The Culture Academy Leadership Programme (CALP) 2017 aimed at grooming middle managers in cultural institutions to move to the next level in their careers and to build camaraderie and a common ethos among leaders in the sector. This programme saw 18 middle managers from the MCCY and her agencies (National Arts Council, National Heritage Board, Esplanade, National Gallery Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, School of the Arts and Singapore Tyler Print Institute) spending 10 days discussing and debating on issues that cut across the sector and on how to be effective leaders in order to steer the sector forward in the coming years. The programme included a 4-day overseas study trip to Yogyakarta and Jakarta to broaden participants’ view on culture and to appreciate the soft power of culture in strengthening bilateral relations whereas the local component included facilitated discussions using case studies, dialogues with senior managements and key personalities in Singapore’s arts and culture sector, interactive peer-learning and team-building activities.
